I just wanted to write you a quick note of appreciation. Thank you for sticking by me and still loving me even though Mommy has gotten very busy lately.(and sometimes really grumpy).

Claire, Thank you for the PILES of beautiful heart, flower and claire and mommy drawings. They make my heart swell. Especially when you sign your baby girl name in 4 year old letters. I melt when you still run to me at record speed and wrap your arms around me and whisper "My love you mommy".

Lucas, my hurricane. You drown me in crazy screams and silly laughs. Your energy makes my wacky days so worth while. One rendition of Lollipop Guild with those spooky eyes and munchkin voice can make me smile for hours.

She went (squeak)!

At first it scared me, but then I realized it was her shoes. They squeaked when she walked.

Loved them....have to have them for my Lucas.

Mommy says they sell them at the Strong Museum gift shop.

I have been doing a couple portraits of Mommy and Daddy (if they let me) too.

I am wishing (As usual, I think maybe I wish too much?) That I had a photos of me and my hubby.

Those are important too!

She was such a happy, curious, sweet little doll.

We got all dirty!

Believe it or not, in this last shot, there was actually a mosquito on her forehead! I of course cloned it off, was interesting to see though, but way to cute a portrait to toss for that!

I have photographed a lot of families now.

Yes, I am always thinking of new ways to pose people, fun new backgrounds....

But as I always say, my favorite captures are the ones when they are situating themselves or calming down a baby who may be close to having enough of the session.

I was so excited to meet Becky.

So excited I called Nate Daddy the whole session, his name just would not come to me!

Until the next session started and I was saying, "that was Becky and Nate...aaah, there it is".

Anyway, I am pretty sure Nate knew I was having trouble remembering his name,

I hate stuff like that!

I remember you Nate for sure, just not your name.

Back from my tangent:

Nate is as proud as they come.

It isn't that he brags or anything.

But it is just in the way he looks at Becky and Luke.

It is very clear.

He is so proud of Luke and so in love.

Sorry to gush, but couldn't help it.

We did thier session in a really cool URBAN setting. Email me for details. It is a lot of fun. If you have done it all and feel like something different, I think it pays off.

What Kind of Camera Do you Use?

I get that question a lot!
Needless to say, most professional photographers giggle a little inside. I personally think it is fair to say, taking a photograph is not even 50% about the camera you use.
There are a lot of things involved, but I thought I would give you some tips to see if you can become a better photographer.

(I also will be putting some on the Glow blog, about how to make your wedding day photos turn out just how you want them).

1. Do buy a great camera. Because it is a large part. You are not going to be able to take really great clear, bright photos with a cheap camera.
I shoot with the Canon 5D.
I love Canon products. A 5D is an SLR camera. Which means I can change the lenses (among other things).
Lenses make a huge difference in what my photos look like.

2. Buy a book! (Cause there is a lot to learn).
I shoot in Manual Mode.
Which means I control everything. This makes a huge difference in pretty much everything about a photography. Color, lighting, focus...I pick it all. If you can pick up some info. and try it. You will see a ridiculous difference.

3. Think about your background. Not only about if it is pretty or interesting, but Is there a tree, lamp post, door knob or other distracting object right by your subjects head?Is there a distracting color?Is it cluttered?

4. Think about light. To me that is what it is all about.Where is it coming from.
Do you need more.
Lighting (Sun,Flash,Florescent) affects your focus, color, shadows..so many things.
Move your subject around until the light falls how you want it to.

5. Think about editing your photos. As a professional, this is a big deal. and I am not just talking about opening it up in Picasa and turning it to black and white.
You want someone who knows how to do some fun and important things.
A photo does not just come out of the camera looking perfect. Sometimes it is almost perfect, but a lot of times it needs brightening, sharpening, and some drama added!

Below is an example of one I was working on today.

This photo actually didn't need that much, but as you will see I lightened it, specifically around their gorgeous eyes, and I added some drama in burning the edges.
I also added something called "Portraiture".
It evens things out, makes skin look perfect and makes the whole photo just plain look finished!

Now, go forth and take great photos!!

I had it for all different reasons today!
1. Because this is one of those families that sacrifices for us all.
2. These are two parents who do everything right.
3. And it shows, two gorgeous boys, who were easy as pie to photograph!

We got lots of good ones with everyone looking, but you know me, I love the candid shots.
These little guy just made everyone lauph...and big brother was the apple of his eye.

Today we had a lazy day!
I haven't posted much of my kids lately..I should share.

Summer has arrived, school is out!

Among other things my kids need haircuts, the air conditioner needs to be put in (uh huh, we still have window units), and the gardens need to be weeded. So goes daily life in the Puchades home.

But we still have lots of fun! I try to keep documenting my own family.
I have been looking for an image to print on canvas. I am tempted to do this one...I think it is really just darling and so them.
Should I?

Stella, Our Shining Star \ Rochester NY Newborn Photography

This is a special story of our family's new star, Stella.

I will start with my nervous nelly sister Rachel and her maternity shoot (a whole 3 minutes) that for some reason I knew I had to do while I had her in front of me.
I guess sometimes you just know things.
She wasn't really big enough, nor did she even have make up on or anything remotely close to what she wanted to be wearing, but I wanted something!!!

Then came the news, Pre-eclampsia...the baby had to come out.

My family hurried to Rachel and Joe's side.
The day before had us all concerned, but truly excited and so filled with joy and hope to meet our newest family member!

But the waiting ...

It was finally time to send Rachel off to surgery.
I couldn't help but feel so certain that everything was going to be fine.
Maybe it was for my own protection, but it just all felt right.

We were left with our nerves and eachother...

Finally SHE arrived.

Stella
A Girl!

They opened the blinds.
She was kicking, her chest was rising and falling.
She was pink.
We were so just amazed.
Just a little over 2 pounds.

Then she rushed by us and dad had his first look.

Love at first sight...

A tiny miracle.

Rachel is healing so fast.
Stella is strong like her mommy.
We all can't stop talking about her and our hopes for her future.

Welcome sweet baby girl.
Such a ray of light.

Like going green and wow it got green?!

I was inspired by Oprah the other day(which honestly I hadn't been in awhile, but I think she is getting better, or I am actually trying to watch her once in awhile.)

My problem is usually, so what if you don't live in trendy San Diego? Can you still do all that cool stuff to try and save the environment?

I am on a mission!
I will tell you what I know you can in the Rochester area:

Buy less packaging-

Grow your own vegetables (I already have mine started!)
Shop at the Public Market (Thursdays and Saturdays). ---You will save big $$$ and be inspired every time you are there by the sights you see.There are some really cool restaurants, they have a giant garage sale. If you haven't been you really need to.I can't wait to bring my camera next time!
Buy some of those reusable bags!! If you don't have any, you MUST be living under a rock! They are everywhere and ridiculously cheap. I got mine at Aldi's for under 2$ a piece and they are huge!! I have 3 and that fits all my weekly groceries (and I even bring them on shoots with me to carry all my gear and props).--they also sell them at Wegmans, Target, and Walmart.
Pack a lunch, and use reusable things! (This part was something that I really want to try, I don't go anywhere, but my husband packs his lunch and I pack a snack for my daughter for preschool). I think I may actually try and make a couple little sacks for pretzels I will post a photo when I do!(or if). But what else could we use?--I found some on Etsy!!
Stop it already with the bottled water! Buy one of those fun bottles (they have them at wegmans). Plus I can't stand spending money on water? (and don't).

Some really great resources in Rochester: reuse, buy used, sell instead of throwing out, or just plan give it away!!
www.freecycle.com: people list things for FREE and you just arrange to pick them up!

www.craigslist.org: (again, Rock thing, are you under one?) -sell things, buy things...lots of toys and clothing items.

Garage sale season is almost here! I can't wait to have mine. I have a garage full of stuff ready for new owners!!!

What am I personally going to do, since I act here like I do all this stuff already...
-recycle everything (I admit it, I get lazy)
-buy a couple power strips that power down and a programmable thermostat. (no worries for the summer, I don't have AC...feel bad for me!)
-buy used.

Finally, some scenes of Spring in Rochester. It got green fast didn't it? Some truly beautiful sights around that I just didn't have time to get, but here are some right in my back yard that I couldn't pass up.
